ABOUT YAROSLAV LESKIV
I’m Yaroslav Leskiv. I design and integrate smart homes in Mississauga and the GTA, with Home Assistant at the centre.
My focus is a home that is simple to use, with local control, thoughtful security and privacy, and compatible devices that work together over time.
A modern smart home is more than a collection of devices. Automation, software, networking, power, privacy and security all need to work together.
I consider those connections from the start, so everyday controls stay simple and the system can be maintained and expanded as your needs change.

CYBERSECURITY · ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, 2024
My cybersecurity analyst studies were recognised with a Certificate of Academic Excellence from Toronto School of Management.
That learning informs how I separate smart devices from personal computers, manage access and reduce unnecessary cloud exposure. Remote control is planned without unnecessarily opening the home network to the internet.
ELECTRICAL / ENERGY ENGINEERING · GRADUATED WITH HONOURS
My engineering education helps me consider power requirements, equipment limits and how a home uses energy.
Energy monitoring and sensor-led climate routines can make that use easier to understand and manage. Device safety and manufacturer limits remain part of the plan. Mains wiring and circuit changes require a licensed electrical contractor.
COMPUTER SCIENCE · GRADUATED WITH HONOURS
My computer science background informs automation logic, integrations, local services and troubleshooting.
I bring those parts together around clear everyday controls, with documentation for ongoing care. Compatibility across brands and protocols helps leave room for future choices.
HOME ASSISTANT · MISSISSAUGA
I’m hosting and organising Home Assistant Community Day 2026 in Mississauga to bring local users, makers and smart-home enthusiasts together to share projects, exchange practical experience and learn from one another.
It’s one way I’m helping grow the Home Assistant and smart-home community in Mississauga and the GTA. Beginners are welcome.

PERSONAL LAB WORK · TEACHING · PROOF OF CONCEPT
My personal HomeLab and smart-home environment are places to test ideas before considering them for a homeowner’s system.
I evaluate Home Assistant routines, Zigbee, Matter, Thread and ESPHome devices, along with network separation, local services, backups and remote access. Supported local automations can keep working without the internet; cloud and remote features may still need a connection.
This is personal experimentation, educational collaboration and academic work, clearly identified below.
