PRIVACY, WITH A PRACTICAL PLAN

Connected to your life.
Considered for your privacy.

You should know where your data goes, who has access and what keeps working if the internet stops.

Keep control at home.

My default is Home Assistant with compatible local devices. Everyday commands run within your home instead of depending on a device manufacturer’s cloud.

That reduces cloud dependence and can limit data shared outside your home. It still needs careful configuration and maintenance.

Protect access, not just devices.

I plan network separation, individual accounts, limited permissions and encrypted remote access where needed. Updates, backups and recovery are part of the handover plan.

You own the accounts. Any support access is agreed with you and can be withdrawn.

Make informed choices.

Cloud services are optional, not automatically unsafe. If you want one, we review what it collects, which features need internet and any ongoing cost.

We agree those trade-offs before setup. I explain what runs locally and what leaves the home.

Questions about hacking, cameras or AI are welcome.

No connected system is risk-free. My role is to reduce avoidable risks, explain the choices and leave you in control. You do not need to understand the technical terms.

HELPFUL TO KNOW

Your questions,
answered.

Will my home still work without internet?

Supported local controls and routines can keep working while the controller, devices and home network have power. Remote access, some notifications and cloud services need internet. I explain these dependencies before setup.

Can a local smart home still be hacked?

Yes — local does not mean invulnerable. Reducing unnecessary internet connections helps, but strong passwords, multi-factor authentication where available, updates and carefully limited access still matter. We agree how these are maintained.

Does a smart home need AI or always-listening microphones?

No. Lights, blinds and heating can follow rules you choose, without generative AI or a voice assistant. Cameras, microphones and AI features are separate choices. If requested, we review where their data is processed and stored.

Can I keep existing devices, including cloud products?

Often, yes. I check the exact models and supported features. Local devices are my default; if you prefer a cloud product, I can include it where compatible after explaining its data use, internet dependency and ongoing costs.

Can I use my phone and familiar buttons?

Yes, with compatible equipment. A phone dashboard, wall panel and physical buttons can work alongside your automations. Remote phone access is configured separately from control inside your home.

What happens after setup?

You receive a walkthrough, documentation and account ownership. We agree who handles updates and backups, and whether any support access is needed. Further troubleshooting or changes can be arranged with clear availability and costs.
